November 15, 2007 Christopher Henderson Delivers University-Wide Lecture and Interactive Discussion, University of Manitoba This ground-breaking University-Wide Lecture and Interactive Discussion focused on the Why, When, Who and How of Canada's transition to a sustainable energy future. This lecture for under-graduate, graduate and doctoral students, and Faculty and post-docs delved into the process of sustainability change in multiple disciplines. Mr. Henderson addressed specific issues in the following areas:§ Architecture: The move to Green Buildings as it relates to technology, building design, urban development, government policy and property appraisal (School of Architecture) § Engineering: The development of renewable energy, biotech, nano tech and other technologies and energy generation and consumption (Faculty of Engineering) § Business: Energy and sustainability in corporations, and the role of capital markets in a more sustainable energy future (Asper School) § Environment: An array of issues including habitat protection, conversion of wastes, environmental/energy policy ( Faculty of Environment) § Natural Resources: More efficient use of non-renewable resources and optimizing renewable commodity potentials (Natural Resources Institute) § Human Ecology: The social dimensions of sustainability, notably the nature and process of behavior change (f Human Ecology School) § Planning: Urban, spatial and business processes intertwined with sustainability change (Planning Program) § Agriculture: Sustainable foods, use of bio-feedstocks, and the generation/consumption of energy (Faculty of Agriculture) |
